The Holy Crib

In the days of Advent and Christmas – there is a picture of the Holy Crib. We have seen it in the so called the “Crypt of the Nativity”, below the sanctuary of Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. It is called also the Bethlehem Crypt, which is the burial place for prominent Catholics. One of them should be Saint Jerome, the 4th century Doctor of the Church who lived in Bethlehem and translated the Bible into the Latin language (the Vulgate).

It is hard to believe that Christmas will come soon. I publish today a picture which is full of sun and summer. We are on the Capitol Hill.
At the same time I want to announce formally that we have booked the next dates of the Pallottine Youth Forum 2009. We repeat the same date: 1-7 August 2009. Write, if you know someone who wants to come.

The Meridian Line in the Basilica

The Meridian line is a sort of sundial in the basilica. It was built to produce a tool to exactly predict Easter.

Holy Mass in the Basilica Maria Maggiore

We celebrated the Sunday Mass in the Basilica Maria Maggiore. The Council of Ephesus held in 431 officially desided to call Mary THEOTOKOS (Greek for the "God-Bearer" or "Mother of God"). The Basilica was completed by Pope Sixtus III (432-440) to honor Mary under this title.
